Adulting is Overrated...Most Of The Time

5:00:00 AM

Becoming an adult has been an interesting, confusing, hard, wonderful, transforming period of my life. I've had many periods where I felt like I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and times where I felt like I could take over the world. If I could describe it in one word it would be progression.

There's nothing that prepares you for adulthood like living it. In high school I took a "surviving on your own" course that went over the basics like paying bills, credit cards, college etc, but that wasn't enough. Even college provided somewhat of a false sense of security. Once I graduated, reality set it. Student loans, moving and finding a career is an overwhelming process that leaves many of us feeling lost and defeated. Looking back, I can see how it all worked together for my good and I was never alone through any of it. It's not always fun, but it's a part of life that we all have to go through.

Now that we got the boring stuff out of the way, let's talk about how being an adult can be fun. The first thing that comes to mind is freedom. I love being able to live my life and come home at the end of the day to peace and quiet. I'm not responsible for anyone but me. It's also a great time to follow your dreams, make mistakes and grow from them. I have been blessed with different opportunities to learn from others through internships and fellowships. With these new and developing skills, I'll be able to translate them into my own dreams. I also am gaining confidence as an adult. I've been thrown into so many different positions that have put me outside of my comfort zone and it's helping me trust my instincts and express my opinions.

I'm learning that every stage of life will bring its challenges, but to view them as lessons that are shaping me into the best version of myself. So cheers to being in my twenties and making the most of every minute!

Have a wonderful day!
