BEHIND THE BLOG: FEATURING "SUNDAY CHAPTER"5:30:00 AM
This year I wanted to bring fresh content and ideas to my blog and what better way to do this than by starting a new blog series! Everyone has their own unique backstory and I wanted to shine some light on how a blog is ran and how much work really goes into it. I hope that through these interviews, every reader will gain a fresh perspective that will motivate them to keep pursuing their blogging dreams.
Angela Giakas is the lovely author at "Sunday Chapter", an amazing travel and lifestyle blog. Her posts are filled with beautiful photos of dream destinations around the world, delicious and healthy food and wonderful lifestyle tips. Any reader that comes across her website is sure to be inspired, filled with wanderlust and want to live an adventurous life.
1. Can you tell the readers about yourself and your blog?
My name is Angela and I’m a blogger from Melbourne, Australia. I created Sunday Chapter, a travel and lifestyle blog with a focus on adventures, style and health.
2. How did you first get into blogging?
Well, actually, I first started blogging in 2007 (just realized that’s 10 years ago… wow). I looked at it as a hobby and creative outlet whilst I was in high school. Blogging wasn’t a real big thing back then but I wanted to document and share the things I loved. I would come home and escape life in my little corner of the internet! After graduating university in 2014, I then created Sunday Chapter and started to take it more seriously. It’s been a whirlwind since then!
3. How do you manage time to run your blog efficiently?
I am incredibly fortunate to call blogging my full time job at the moment. Some days are a struggle and it’s hard to balance work and social life since my job feels 24/7, but I wouldn’t give it up for the world.
4. What are you hoping to improve with your blog this year?
I think the main focus is going to be expanding travel and style. I’ve bought on some team members so it’s not just me behind Sunday Chapter anymore! We’re just starting to explore video content. I’ve also started sharing more of myself in the blog and weekly travel adventures. I have so many exciting things in the works for this year!
5. In your opinion, what is the biggest misconception about blogging?
That all we do is take photos and get free samples. There is so much more that goes on behind the scenes of a blog, it’s crazy!
6. Where would you like to see your blog 5 years from now?
Great question! Since technology and social media evolves at such a rapid rate, it’s always hard to cement long term goals in a digital world. At this point, I would say a youtube channel sharing travel itineraries (similar to travel vlogs), improving the quality of content and expanding our team.
7. What has been your biggest accomplishment and failure as a blogger?
My biggest accomplishment would be making the switch to full time blogging. My biggest failure isn’t so much an event, but it was trying to find my voice and style. It took me quite some time to really open up and my blog covered so many topics that it was confusing to even myself. I wasn’t very confident in my articles or work and it really impacted the growth of my blog in the beginning.
8. Lastly, what is your biggest piece of advice for anyone starting a blog?
Don’t be afraid to be different and show your personality! What makes a blog successful is its ability to stand out from the crowd.
